To stay in the loop, check out the minutes from our monthly meetings:

September 5, 2007

Attending:  Michael Valentine, Dan Frisbie, Pat Kiley, Steve McAuliffe, Steve Briggs, Dave White

The main (and only) topic of discussion was our upcoming pancake breakfast and Young Eagles event on the 22nd.  Mainly, we haven't planned out far ahead enough, so now it's a scramble to get it all arranged.

We originally had the event scheduled for the 11th of August, but for reasons of scheduling conflicts with some members, it was postponed.  That event was announced in the Atlantic Flyer, but it was never retracted.  As a consequence, several members of the chapter in LEB flew in that morning and were disappointed.  Not good.

This time we are trying to get it arranged so it will go off seamlessly, and it is taking some doing.  We think, but are not sure, we have about five airplanes arranged to do the flying.  At least one will not know if he can make it until a couple of days before.  We'll know within a few days if several others can do it.

Another obstacle is that Dave Rolla, Airport Manager, has not been kept in the loop as to these events, and he's not happy with us as a result.  Michael spent a considerable amount of time on Wednesday trying to appease Dave.  Hopefully successfully.

We came to the conclusion that in the future we need to plan these events much farther out in the future, and appoint individuals to certain specific tasks for these events.

For the upcoming event on the 22nd, we will need as many of you as possible to help.  Please contact Michael or Steve and volunteer.  Let's try to make up our mistake to the guys from Chapter 740, if any of them show up.  And if you know of any kids who might like to fly that day, let them know too.  We've got a lot of work to do in the next couple of weeks.

June 6, 2007

Meeting started at 7:00

Members present: Dan Frisbie, Steve Briggs, Ken Walter, Glenn Scott, Tom Hettinger, Michael Valentine, Alan Cate, Pat Kiley, Paul O'Reilly, Dave White

Started the meeting by thanking Pat for the tour of the ATC facilities.  He say's we got in at the right time because the FAA has stopped all facility tours due to attempted incursions.

Young Eagles will be on August 10th.  8 AM for the pancake breakfast and the flights will start at 9 AM.

We have a considerable sum in our treasury, so we will start buying training videos from EAA and AOPA.  They will be shown at meetings and will be available for loan to members.

Dave will try to set up a visit from a friend who was flew the U-2 early in the program.  Also a possible talk from a B-47 pilot.

Alan will post notice of the Young Eagles day in the Atlantic Flyer.

We will meet at Parlin Field in Newport for lunch on Sunday the 17th of this month.  Good Mexican food.  Wives and family's too.

The first Wednesday in July is the 4th, so the July meeting will be on the 11th.

Meeting ended at 8:15

May 5th, 2007

Present:
Tom Hettinger, Michael Valentine, Steve Briggs, Dave White, Ken Walter, Paul O'Reilly, Pat Kiley, Alec Muller

A group of us is touring Boston Approach, Manchester Tower, and the Boston Center ATC facilities as I write this (Saturday morning, May 5th).

There's an FAA training seminar titled, "Do the right thing" that provides very realistic situational decision-making practice by showing a video of a situation, giving the audience several different options to pursue, and then showing the consequences of their choice.  It's on a Tuesday night in Bedford, MA, and Steve Briggs highly recommends it.

The North Hampton Fly-Mart is Saturday and Sunday May 19th and 20th.  Steve Briggs and others will go Saturday and be running a table to sell aviation-related items that have been donated to the chapter by members, and they'll be starting early (8am?) and offer a pancake breakfast and lunch.  If you have something some might use that you'd like to get rid of, contact Steve prior to the 19th of this month.

Young Eagles will be Saturday, June 9th!  Only a month away!
As with last year, we'll be having a pancake breakfast at the same time.  The breakfast will start at 8 (get there early to set up), and flights will start at 9.  Alec will update the website to announce the date and link to the EAA young eagles information page, and Michael will talk to Vinny to figure out how best to publicize it.

Chapter hats - Alec will contact Vinny to get the chapter logo and look into getting hats made for us to wear at events (should be cheap, around $10 or less hopefully).

Treasury: we have $722 & change in our chapter bank account.

We talked about air traffic control at Oshkosh, Lakeland, etc, and VFR corridors and strange approaches in places like LAX, NYC, San Diego, and Hong Kong.

February 7th, 2007

Note: Please send an email (preferably with a photo of yourself and your airplane) to eaa1385@gmail.com if you would like to continue getting chapter emails.  We'll be switching over to that address from the yahoo one for future club emails.

Present:
Tom Hettinger, Stephen Briggs, Michael Valentine, Chuck Firth, Dave White, Ken Walter, Paul O'Reilly, Alan Cate, Dan Frisbie, Steve McAuliffe, Alec Muller

Insurance - we need to look at the forms they've sent us, understand them, and send out a check for a couple of hundred dollars to protect the chapter and the members against the uncertain.  Additionally, there seems to be a requirement that we notify someone of events 30 days in advance in order to have insurance coverage for them; are Saturday meetings considered events?  Some believed meetings didn't require notice to insure.

Steve M collected dues from many.

Stephen B, Michael Valentine, Dave White, and Chuck Firth were elected to President, VP, Treasurer, and Secretary respectively.

Chapter ideas:
In addition to the monthly meetings at the terminal for discussion, we should try to meet once a month or so for a project-oriented meeting at someone's house, or going to another chapter's fly-in, or any other kind of flying- or building-related activity that you would enjoy.  If you have ideas for certain activities you'd enjoy doing, please bring them to the next meeting.

Possible meeting topics:
 - revisit voc-tech in Nashua
 - work on projects 2-4 hours on Saturdays at members' homes
 - ATC facility, visit Manchester tower
 - members demos or interesting topics for show and tell
 - FAA flight safety briefing sponsorship
 - Daniel Webster seminars
 - Aviation History Museum visit
 - North Hampton "Fly" Market; get stuff together for chapter
- Cape Cod trip, P51, DC3

Spring Planning
- Young Eagles - try to decide when next meeting; need to send notice to various publications 3 months in advance.
- Look for activities at other chapters and attend as a group

Project Donation
- Possible connection to school program?
- Partially built project available for taking?

Next meeting, decide on activities and get scheduled.

Chapter gmail account:  This is an email address all of us can access (sign in to http://www.mail.google.com under the name eaa1385 with the password <blanked out - contact webmaster>.  This account will allow us to post our calendar, pictures, and contact information in a format that everyone can access, everyone can edit, and will only be available to chapter members who have the password.  Please send an email to this address (eaa1385@gmail.com) if you haven't already so that you'll be in the contact list.

July 5th, 2006

Present: Pat Kiley, Chuck Firth, Steven Briggs, Paul O'Reilly, Tom Hettinger, Ken Walter, Dave White, Michael Valentine, Vincent Devino, Alec Muller

The weather was beautiful so we spent the first part of the meeting outdoors talking and looking at airplanes including a nice Cirrus SR22.

Inside we decided to reschedule the Young Eagles event that got rained out in June for Saturday, October 7th with a rain date the following week.

We talked about hangars.  Some of us who were here for the last pancake breakfast drove over and got to go see the new ones built on the far side of the runway a few months ago.  They're beautiful, but somewhat more strictly limited to just storing airplanes than older hangars and aren't cheap.

Alan has a spreadsheet that's on the web site and lists member projects.  The chapter roster is also up and password protected with everyone's contact information who wants it there.

Pancake breakfast / fly-in scheduled for Saturday, September 16th, 2006.

Alec to add calendar function to the web site and contact EAA HQ with event dates.

March 1, 2006

Present: Dan Frisbie, Steve McAuliffe, Vinny Devino, George LaBonte, Tom Hettinger, Steven Briggs, Pat Kiley, Fred Dexter, Alec Muller

Meeting began at 7:00pm

Discussed events proposed by Alan Cate

Planning to participate in "Spacetacular Saturday" on May 6 at 8am by running a table.  Hope to have aircraft and/or parts to display and to hand out flyers telling people about the chapter and what we do.  Also, to promote our Young Eagles activities planned a few weeks after that.

Israel Briggs to do composites demonstration for May meeting?

Pat can do wood? construction demonstration

When daylight lasts long enough, Tom can demo his weight-shift ultralight at a regular meeting, or we can meet on a weekend.

Saturday, May 20th, we plan to do a Pancake Breakfast Flyin beginning at 8am.  As with the Young Eagles Day, we'll need to check it with Concord Aviation.

National Young Eagles Day is June 10th, but we're tentatively planning on doing ours on June 24th.  As with last year, Steve has agreed to bring his flight simulator equipment and we're planning on having pilots show up at 8am to be ready for the general public at 9am.  Hopefully it will be cooler and dryer than last year.

Discussed the possibility of making a simple trifold brocure to give out at events to give people information about the chapter.  It would be extremely useful if people can write up ideas for this and bring them to the next meeting.

Discussed Sun and Fun on the week of April 4th to 10th; several guys hope to go to it.

Discussed Hangar rental fees and sale prices in Concord and Keene.  Hangar space in Concord for a regular aircraft can be had for $500 a month; space for an ultralight can be had for $325.  The new hangars at Concord will be significantly more expensive than this.  T-hangars can be bought outright in Keene for $21k to $26k

Membership is due - Please mail your $20 in annual dues to Steve McAuliffe or bring them to the next meeting.

Alec to look into web site login for membership roster so people can easily look up each other's contact information on the web site without having it be publically accessible.

Meeting closed at 7:45pm

February 11th, 2006

Present: Alec Muller, Chuck Firth, Pat O'Reilly, Steve Briggs, Steve McAuliffe, Pat Kiley, Mike Valentine, Dave White, Ken Walter, Tom Hettinger, Israel Briggs, Alan Kate, Dan Frisbie, Phil Palmer

January 11th, 2006

Present: Chuck Firth, Steve Briggs, Tom Hettinger, George LaBonte, Israel Briggs, Dave White, Michael Valentine, Dan Frisbie, Steve McAuliffe, Alec Muller

Meeting began at 7:00 pm

We began with start-of-year paperwork, introduced our new officers (Dan Frisbie - President, Steve Briggs - VP, Steve McAuliffe - Treasurer, Alec Muller - Secretary) and board of directors (officers plus Vinny Devino, Chuck Firth, Pat Kiley)

Treasurer's report - we have $414.25 plus $100 in new membership dues (5 people paid their $20 annual membership fee so far).

Following the success of meeting at Dan's house last month, we'll be meeting at Steve Briggs' house next month.  The current plan is for the second Saturday in February - a fixed time and directions to come.

Chuck talked about the board of directors meeting quarterly - the first time on January 21st.  He also discussed our chapter bylaws which were taken from the sample bylaws given by EAA - the hope is to put them up on the web site.

Steve M talked about possibility of us all flying down to Nantucket, where he has a friend-of-a-friend connection that might let us see some neat airplanes - something to keep in mind for nice weather.

We chatted about flaps on landing, learning aerobatics, and the effect of tire pressure on landings.  Israel talked about foam core epoxy and offered to do a demo on his Cosy in May when the weather warmed up enough for it.

The meeting adjourned at 8:05pm

November 2, 2005

In attendance:  Dan Frisbie, Frank Baker, Michael Valentine, Alec Muller, Steve Briggs, Vinny Devino, Pat Kiley, Alan Cate

Meeting called to order at 7:11

Nominations for new officers were solicited, results will be sent in a separate email.  If you'd like to run for any office, by all means nominate yourself or anybody else.

Some discussion on next Young Eagles event to be held mid-May 2006.

Much discussion for a "Light Sport" event at CON.  Discussion revolved around such things as parking space, insurance requirements, space available for vendors, price vendors would pay for space.  If over 250 people in attendance, City of Concord would become involved...police in attendance, etc., etc.  Sounds like it may be a bit much for our small chapter.  Perhaps a less ambitious "Light Sport Rally" would work.

Vinny noted we need a calender of events for the coming year, to get organized.

Meeting ended at 8:30PM.

October 5, 2005 Meeting

Minutes of September meeting were accepted by Steve Briggs, no changes were noted.

Treasurer’s report by Steve McAuliffe, same balance as September.  Report accepted by Dan Frisbie.

Old Business…Chapter banner made by Bill Dorvillier…accepted graciously.  Thanks Bill

Nominations for new officers:

            President…Dan Frisbie (renominated…accepted)

            Vice President…Steve Briggs…(accepted)

            Treasurer…Chuck Firth (not in attendance)

            Secretary…Vinny Devino (not in attendance)

New Business…Getting prepared for the upcoming fly in on the 15th  (cancelled at the last moment due to weather, probably will reschedule for the spring)

Next month (November 2nd) we will have ongoing discussions and (hopefully) preparations for the LSA Expo next summer.  Also we need to complete the nomination procedure so that we can have the elections in December.

Welcome new member Mike Valentine, from Contoocook.  Mike is starting a new project, a Zenith 601.

September 7th, 2005 meeting, EAA Chapter 1385 "Capital Flyers"

Minutes of August meeting were accepted by by Steve McAuliffe, 2n'd by Chuck Firth.

Treasurer's report: we have $414.25 in our account.

We moved to change on our documents, the name CAPITOL to CAPITAL.

There was no old business to review.

Web site: Using the nice format that Andy set up (but doesn't have the time to commit to), Alec will change the domain and set it up with a new address, EAA1385.org. Thanks Andy, for getting it started, and we hope you will eventually be able to slow down in your professional life and become more active with us.

We had a very good and hopefully productive meeting last night.  We all agreed that we need to be more agressive in meeting our proposed agenda's, and some came up with some very interesting ideas.  More on that later.

In the October meeting we will nominate a new set of officers for the next two years.  We'll vote them in during the December meeting.  The present Class II members of the Board of Directors, Steve Briggs, Chuck Firth, and Vinny Devino, will remain in place for the next two years.  We may also move the January meeting to the 2nd Wednesday to be farther from the holidays.

Alan agreed to be our "Activities Coordinator", and he came up with some good suggestions for possible chapter activities, including a look at  having a hamburger/hot dog flyin, perhaps in October.  "Leaf Peepers Special".

Project site visits were also discussed, and we will be setting up these visits, possibly one every month, most likely on a Saturday. Stay tuned.

Another project we are looking at will involve a lot more work, with help from more of our members.  A few months ago there was a Light Sport Aircraft Expo in Florida, with several manufacturer's bringing their aircraft in to show them off.  If we could pull off something like that here in CON, a "Light Sport Expo North", that would really put us "on the map".  Of course, it would involve approvals from the airport operators and probably the city too.  A lot of work for all of us.  A possibility for next summer, but we'd need to get going on it right away.

Bill Dorvillier made a beautiful chapter poster for us.  Dan will be talking with Bill about it.  Thanks Bill.  Hope to see you at meetings soon.  I know you're busy.

I get the feeling that we're going to be a more active chapter in the near future.  Let's hope so.

May 4th, 2005 meeting, EAA Chapter 1385 "Capitol Flyers"

Dan opened the meeting at 7:05 pm

Minutes from the April meeting were reviewed.  No changes or additions.  Steve McAuliffe moved to accept, Pat Kiley seconded.

Treasurers report from Steve:  We have $230.25 in our account, plus another $60.00 in dues tonight, for a total of $290.25 in the bank.  Vinny Devino moved to accept, Chuck Firth seconded.

Most of the meeting was used to go over the upcoming Young Eagles event, and how it needs to be run.  There are some very specific proceedures that must be adhered to, and Vinny covered them well.  The sequence of events will as follows:

After sign in, preflight activity, flight, postflight.  The ground rules must be followed strictly for the safety of everyone.  That's not to say that we can't all have a great time.  There is to be one adult pax (or pilot) for each YE.  We will start the June meeting at six for a dry run of the YE day.

Frank Baker couldn't make the meeting, but he sent a few ideas for a chapter logo for us to peruse.  If anybody has any ideas to add, please bring them to the June meeting.  I'll get Frank's to Andy for posting on the website.

Dan moved to close at 9:00, Chuck seconded.

April 6, 2005 meeting, EAA Chapter 1385

Minutes for the March, 2005 meeting accepted by Vinny Devino, seconded by Frank Baker

Treasurer’s report.  Treasurer (Steve McAuliffe) was absent.  We have $236.25 in our account.

Old business.

Alan Cate and Vinny Devino are working on Young Eagles posters to be placed strategically plus (if we ever get it up and running) on our website.

Highlights.

Don Hebert gave a very good presentation on the plans for the new hangars to be built on the east side of Concord Airport.  We are hopeful that by the time the hangars are built, the chapter will be able to afford to lease one.  Don joined the chapter.  Welcome.

Young Eagles.  Vinny presented an overview of the event…how it must be run to EAA standards.  More will be discussed on topic at May meeting.

Cockpit Design Basics.  A very informative presentation was given by Vinny on cockpit ergonomics and panel layout.  Vinny’s background is a design engineer at Lockheed, and he was involved during the last few years of his career with the F-22 program.  Very informative and interesting presentation.

New Business.

Board of Directors…Chuck Firth and Steve Briggs volunteered.  (Need one more). Andy said he would get the web page up and running this month.

Next meeting…ideas for chapter logo for tee-shirts, hats, etc.

Membership chairman???

Steve Briggs will handle MS Flight Simulator presentation.

Dan moved to adjourn, Frank seconded.
